Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about TapOkie, daily check-ins, emergency contacts, plans, and more.
What is TapOkie?
TapOkie is a daily check-in app designed to give your loved ones peace of mind. By simply tapping "I'm OK" once a day, you let your emergency contacts know you're safe without the need for intrusive tracking or constant phone calls.
Do my emergency contacts need to download the app?
No, your emergency contacts do not need to download the app. If you miss a check-in or use the emergency button, TapOkie sends them an automated SMS alert directly to their phone.
What happens if I forget to check in?
TapOkie sends you gentle push notifications when it's time to check in. If you miss your check-in window entirely, we will automatically send an SMS alert to your emergency contacts so they can follow up and check on you.
Is TapOkie free to use?
Yes, TapOkie has a Free plan that includes 1 emergency contact and a standard 24-hour check-in window. We also offer a Premium plan that allows up to 3 emergency contacts, custom check-in schedules, and more personalized features.
Does TapOkie constantly track my location?
Your privacy is our highest priority. Location sharing is completely optional and TapOkie is not a constant tracking app. You can choose to include your last known location in emergency alerts, or you can turn it off entirely. We never share your location unless you explicitly enable it for emergency situations.
Can I pause my check-ins if I go on vacation?
Yes! On the Premium plan, you can easily pause your check-ins or use the Calendar Skip feature to schedule skips in advance for vacations or busy days, so no false alerts are sent to your contacts while you're away.
What is the One-Tap Emergency Button?
The Emergency Button allows you to request help immediately without waiting for a check-in window. Tapping it instantly notifies your circle. Users have up to 5 successful emergency taps per calendar month.
Can emergency alerts be sent in different languages?
Yes! You can set the alert language for your contacts. With the Premium plan, you can even set a different language for each individual contact, ensuring they always understand the alert message clearly, no matter what language they speak.
What is the 15-Minute Grace Period?
Available on Premium custom schedules, the grace period gives you a 15-minute buffer after your scheduled time. If you're running a bit late, you still have a short window to tap "I'm OK" before any alerts are sent out.
How do I verify a new emergency contact?
When you add a new emergency contact, we'll send a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS directly to their phone number. To complete the setup, simply ask your contact for that OTP and enter it into the TapOkie app. This ensures their number is correct, and guarantees that emergency alerts are only sent to verified contacts who have consented.
What happens if my phone dies or loses internet connection?
TapOkie relies on an active internet connection to receive your "I'm OK" taps. If your phone dies and you are unable to check in, our cloud system handles the timer and will automatically dispatch the SMS to your contacts when the window expires.
Can I change my emergency contacts later?
Yes, absolutely! You can add, update, or remove your emergency contacts at any time from within the app settings.
Who is TapOkie for?
Anyone who values peace of mind! It's especially popular among students, seniors, solo travelers, and individuals living alone who want a non-intrusive way to assure someone they are safe every day.
In which countries is TapOkie available?
TapOkie is exclusively available to users and emergency contacts with a valid phone number from one of our 20 supported countries. A number from these regions is strictly required to both create an account and to receive OTPs or emergency SMS alerts.
What is the difference between pausing and calendar skips?
Pausing stops all check-ins indefinitely starting immediately, until you manually resume them. Calendar skips (available on Premium) let you pre-select specific dates in the future where no check-in will be required, completely automating your busy days or holidays.
Can my emergency contacts reply to the SMS alert?
No, the SMS alert is purely an automated notification sent from our system to inform them you missed a check-in. If they want to reach out to you, they should call or text your personal phone number directly.
Is TapOkie good for checking on elderly parents?
Yes, TapOkie is ideal for families who want to stay connected with aging parents or grandparents without being intrusive. Your parent simply taps "I'm OK" once a day, and you receive an SMS alert only if they miss their check-in. There's no complicated setup, no constant tracking, and no need for your parent to be tech-savvy.
Can I use TapOkie as a solo traveler or someone living alone?
Absolutely. TapOkie was built for anyone who wants someone to notice if they don't check in—solo travelers, students living away from home, people living alone, or anyone who simply wants an extra layer of safety. Your trusted contacts are alerted if you miss your daily check-in or tap the emergency button.
How is TapOkie different from location tracking apps?
TapOkie is not a tracking app. Unlike apps that monitor your location around the clock, TapOkie only asks for a single daily check-in. Location sharing is completely optional and only included in alerts if you choose to enable it. TapOkie focuses on peace of mind through simplicity and privacy, not surveillance.
How does TapOkie compare to other daily check-in or safety apps?
Most safety apps rely on constant GPS tracking, require all parties to install the app, or need expensive hardware. TapOkie takes a different approach: one simple daily tap, SMS alerts sent directly to your contacts' phones (no app needed for them), optional location sharing, multilingual alerts, a one-tap emergency button, and a generous free plan. It's designed to be the simplest, most privacy-respecting way to let someone know you're okay every day.
What happens after 3 consecutive missed check-ins?
If you miss your check-in for 3 consecutive days, TapOkie will automatically pause your check-ins to prevent unnecessary alerts to your contacts. You can re-enable check-ins at any time from within the app when you're ready to resume.
Can I delete my TapOkie account and all my data?
Yes. You can delete your account at any time from within the TapOkie app. When you do, we remove all personal data associated with your account, including your profile, emergency contacts, check-in history, and location data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
